Hedera Helix

Common ivy (Hedera helix) is a classic trailing and climbing plant with elegant dark-green lobed leaves. Incredibly versatile: it looks equally good in a hanging basket, on a shelf, at the base of a larger plant, or as ground cover on a balcony. Easy to grow, fast-spreading, and an excellent air purifier indoors.

Place it in partial shade or indirect light — ivy tolerates low light that most other plants struggle with. Variegated varieties appreciate a little more brightness. Water moderately: every 7–10 days, letting the top layer of soil dry out between waterings. During the heating season, mist the leaves regularly — dry air causes yellowing. Feed once a month from spring through summer with a universal foliage fertiliser.

On a balcony or in the garden, ivy is frost-hardy and overwinters without protection. ⚠ All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested — keep away from children, cats, and dogs.
