Beaucarnea

85,00

Beaucarnea recurvata, known as the elephant foot tree, is one of the most unusual and striking houseplants you can own. Its defining feature is the swollen, bottle-shaped base of the trunk — a water reservoir — topped by a cascade of long, narrow, arching leaves. Native to the semi-deserts of Mexico. It grows extremely slowly, meaning a large specimen can be decades old, making it a truly special acquisition.

Place it in the sunniest spot available — beaucarnea loves bright light and direct sun. Water very infrequently: every 2–3 weeks in summer and once a month in winter, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings. The swollen trunk is a water tank, so the plant will easily survive if you forget to water it. Overwatering is fatal. Feed once a month from spring through summer with a cactus or succulent fertiliser.

Lower leaves drying out over time is completely normal. Safe for people. ✓ The long leaves can scratch — keep away from small children.
