Ficus

30,00

The rubber tree (Ficus elastica) is one of the most popular large houseplants around. Its defining feature is broad, glossy dark-green leaves — each one emerging from a striking red sheath. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, it grows to 1.5–2 m indoors and becomes a bold green focal point in any room.

Place it in bright indirect light — an east- or west-facing window is ideal. A little morning sun is fine; protect it from harsh midday rays. Water every 1–2 weeks: let the top 3–5 cm of soil dry out between waterings and always empty the saucer afterwards. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth from time to time — it keeps them glossy and helps the plant breathe. Feed every 2–4 weeks from spring through summer with a liquid foliage fertiliser.

Don’t move the pot around — like all ficus, the rubber tree dislikes a change of spot and may drop leaves in protest. ⚠ The milky sap is toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested; wear gloves when pruning.
