Olea europaea

27,00

The European olive (Olea europaea) is a symbol of the Mediterranean and one of the most elegant and long-lived plants you can grow at home, on a balcony, or on a terrace. Narrow silvery-green leaves, a gnarled twisted trunk, and an easy-going nature make it a prized addition to any interior. Olive trees live for hundreds of years — a genuine long-term investment in beauty.

Place it in the sunniest spot available: the olive needs at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. In summer it thrives on a balcony or in the garden. Water moderately — every 7–10 days, allowing the soil to dry out well between waterings: olives are drought-tolerant and dislike overwatering. Feed once a month from spring through summer with a Mediterranean plant or universal fertiliser.

In winter the olive needs a cool rest period: +5–10 °C with minimal watering. A bright cold balcony, a glazed loggia, or a cool room by the window is ideal. Without a cool winter, it may not flower the following summer. Safe for people. ✓ The fruits are bitter and inedible without processing.
