The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera)

8,00

The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) is one of the most beloved winter-flowering plants. Unlike desert cacti, it comes from the humid mountain forests of Brazil and blooms exactly when most plants are resting — November through January. Tubular flowers in pink, red, white, or orange appear at the tips of the arching stems and last for several weeks.

Place it in bright indirect light — direct sun scorches the flat segmented stems. Water moderately: every 7–10 days when the top layer of soil has dried out. Water a little more generously during flowering. Do not overwater — always empty the saucer. To trigger blooming, give the plant 4–6 weeks of cool conditions (+10–15 °C) and shorter days in September–October.

Bud drop is a sign of a change of location or draughts — do not move the pot once buds have formed. Safe for people. ✓ May cause mild stomach upset in cats and dogs if eaten.
